Infertility in Women and Men
Many couples are devastated to learn that the reason they can't get pregnant is due to infertility. Being infertile is a particularly hard pill for those who want children to swallow. However, there is hope for those who are suffering from infertility to be able to get pregnant.
First, if a couple is otherwise healthy and under the ages of 30 (some doctors use 35 as the cut-off), they should try to conceive on their own for 12 months before considering infertility testing. If they are above this age limit, the timing may be as short as three months or as long as six months before a doctor will agree to infertility testing.
There are many causes of infertility. Some of these infertility causes are known while others are not. The cause of infertility can vary greatly from one person to the next. Some of the reasons for infertility can be controlled by the person where others cannot be controlled without some sort of medical intervention.
Simple changes to diet and lifestyle can sometimes drastically improve a couple's ability to get pregnant. Eating a healthier diet and avoiding caffeine and alcohol can make a marked improvement in fertility.
Couples should also be of a healthy weight for their body type. While this is more important for women than men, obesity and being underweight can both affect the chances of getting pregnant. Being overweight or underweight can affect the balance of hormones in the body making it difficult to conceive.
Other Infertility Causes
In men, causes of infertility include poor health, sexually transmitted diseases, emotional disorders such as depression, anxiety or acute stress, and injury or disorder of the testicles. Men with infertility may experience low sperm counts or low sperm motility making it virtually impossible to impregnate his partner without intervention. However, intervention does not always need to be in the form of drugs or surgery.
In women, causes of infertility can be linked to issues with the ovaries such as a twisted ovary or lack of monthly ovulation. A leading sign of possible infertility in women is an irregular menstrual cycle. When the menstrual cycle is absent or alternates between very long and very short, it indicates issues with the woman's reproductive system. This could be anything from hormone imbalances to issues caused by endometriosis or polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).
Infertility Treatments
There are a wide variety of infertility treatments used by fertility doctors. These include fertility drugs, invasive surgeries and artificial conception techniques. However, these infertility treatments have many side effects and can be very painful. Not to mention, most people are not very happy with conceiving a baby in such a clinical way such as through in vitro fertilization (IVF) where the egg and sperm are connected in a laboratory and inserted into the womb in hopes of successful implantation.
Luckily, there are holistic infertility treatments that identify and treat the entire cause of infertility in a man or a woman. These methods based in Chinese medicine include acupuncture, lifestyle changes and other simple fertility methods. These procedures are not painful and do not have the horrific side effects many traditional infertility methods do.
Holistic infertility treatments or natural treatments for fertility have been shown to have a higher success rate for men and women trying to get pregnant. They are also less expensive and those who want to conceive in a natural way can have their way. There are no fertility drugs, invasive surgeries or clinical laboratory procedures involved.
